NALA conventions provide an opportunity for paralegals from all over the country to assemble together in a professional, yet comfortable setting to share friendships, ideas, experiences, knowledge and achievements. This year's convention in Portland was no exception. Here are some of the 3-day convention's program highlights:
NALA Member Exchange Presentations. Anna Buchner offered insight into "Going Paperless in the Law Office." She highlighted the benefits and pitfalls of a paperless office. In another room, Kathy Miller and Karen Trumpower dazzled us with "90 Apps in 90 Minutes." App overload! There are so many useful and free apps out there, and these ladies introduced us to a "few" of them.
The Institutes provided CLE credits in the subjects of Criminal Law & Procedure, Electronic Discovery, Employment & HR, Essential Skills (Legal Research, Judgment and Legal Analysis & Written Communications), Estate Administration, Insurance Defense Litigation, and Technology in the Law Office.
The hotel was the beautiful Hilton Portland & Executive Tower in downtown Portland. It was the most convenient location in the heart of the city's cultural district, steps away from fantastic locally-owned restaurants, the downtown metro rail, parks, theaters, shopping and museums. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
The city and outlying areas were simply beautiful, so I just had to rent a car and explore the area at the end of the sessions each day. I was able to visit Multonmah Falls, just 30 minutes away, the gorgeous snow-capped Mount Hood, just an hour's drive, and finally Oregon's amazing coast where we watched an awe-inspiring sunset, put our feet in the cold Pacific Ocean, and ate amazing seafood.
NALA's convention planners made sure we were well-informed, well-educated and well-entertained! The early-bird reception and opening night reception/party provided fantastic food and entertainment for all.
Hat's off to NALA's 38th Annual Convention!
